State of Jefferson - If the state of California were ever to secede,
the new nation might just have a secession of its own to deal with.
Welcome to the State of Jefferson.
Various splits of the state of California have been attempted
throughout the years, but none came closer than the State of
Jefferson movement in 1941. The once and almost state would have
comprised Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc and Lassen Counties of
California and Curry County of Oregon into a libertarian haven.
Jefferson is still a siren song to those fed up with California liberals
or too many taxes. Entering Siskiyou County, signs of Jefferson
abound, including the famous welcome sign on the side of a barn.
